So, yesterday was our first session of Learning in a Digital Environment. I thought that I knew a decent amount about technology and computers, but yesterdays class showed me just how much there is out there and how far behind I am. I was actually panicking a little bit, to be perfectly honest.
Technology evolves everyday, and so it is important to stay on top of the latest information in order to stay current and remain effective. It also plays a huge part in the educational system these days. I knew that computers were fairly common in schools today, and smartboards are being used more frequently as well, but I didn't realize that there were so many other forms of technologies that could be used too.
I am excited to learn about pod casting and other ways of teaching digitally, as I feel that it could be very useful in and out of the classroom. I wish that my own classrooms had used a more technology based classroom. It would have been great to be able to review a lesson from home.
We will see how much I can figure out and learn in this class. Hopefully it's a lot :-)
It came be overwhelming initially but don't worry about it. One step at a time. The most important thing is to think about what you would like the student to learn and hopefully after class you will have a range of tools to help meet those needs. Looking forward to exposing you to many ways to make learning meaningful.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you need to worry. I think having grown up in this age of technology, and with it growing exponentially during our lifetimes, I think we are in a position where we will have an easier time adapting to it and other types of new technologies. I think most of us have the basic understandings necessary to move forward and learn these things with ease. I'm excited too about learning to teach digitally, it will definitely help us connect with students and make potential teachers such as ourselves more marketable than those with a lesser understanding for such things!
ReplyDeleteI think not only will you find the technologies we will learn about in class useful, but interesting as well - and we all know that we remember and strive to learn more about what interests us, and we even enjoy it. That's how I feel about the class anyway.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I wish that my classes in highschool had the option to see lessons when I was at home as well. Hey, I wish we could do that NOW! It would be so much easier. I really believe that we need to translate how feel now and how we felt in highschool and apply it to our students and try to make them as comfortable as we can and give them all the tools we wish we had and more.
I also wish that I had more access to technology as a high school student and even in college. This will be the first course that I have taken that not only teaches technology, but also requires us to apply these lessons to the classroom and our daily lives. I am excited to learn more about the various programs in the spreadsheet so I can ensure that when I am a teacher my students will be able to benefit from the use of technology in the classroom.
